Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan met Mr. Tadeusz Iwinski, deputy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), rapporteur of the Political Affairs Committee on granting Republic of Kazakhstan the observer status to PACE
On September 17, 2008 Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. K. Turgankulov received deputy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), rapporteur of the Political Affairs Committee on providing Republic of Kazakhstan with the status of observer to PACE Mr. Tadeusz Iwinski by his request.
Kuandyk Turgankulov acquainted Mr. Iwinski with the progress of the campaign for elections of Senate deputies. “Election campaign entered its crucial phase – campaign of registered candidates now is going on. There is no doubt that elections will be carried out legally, openly and transparently”, - the CEC Chairman said.
During the meeting there was exchange of opinions on further improvement of election legislation and on prospects of co-operation between CEC and PACE.
“Over the past year and a half we did good job to develop proposals on amendments of existing election legislation taking into account recommendations by OSCE, domestic observers, political parties, public associations. Currently a package of proposals has been submitted to the Justice Ministry, which is a developer of the draft law “On amendments to the Constitutional Act “On elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan”, – Kuandyk Turgankulov stressed.
In the light of the application by Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan to get a status of observer to PACE Mr. Iwinski expressed interest in issues of development of the Kazakhstan’s political system, he noted the need to further deepen co-operation and partnership, mutual exchange of experience in improving election process.
He also informed about intention of PACE to send their representatives as observers for the coming elections of the deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
In the conclusion of meeting parties confirmed interest in continuing interaction and co-operation between the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
