On 24 November, 2005 Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Onalsyn Zhumabekov visited a number of Astana polling stations, where he checked the preparedness of the polling stations for the conduct of the elections 4 December 2005.
At the polling station No.23 of Agrarian University named after S. Seifullin students got acquainted with the electronic voting system “Sailau” and practiced this new method of voting.
Besides, any voter, whose polling station is equipped with the “Sailau” system, may get informed of how to apply the electronic voting system.
Generally, the e-voting will be applied at 1447 polling stations, that composes 15, 07% of the total number of polling stations. Thus, during the presidential elections on December 4, 2005 the e-voting may be used by 31, 8% of the electorate. This opportunity is provided for the residents of all oblast centers, Almaty, Astana, Temirtau, Ekibastuz, Rudnii, Zhezkazgan and Semipalatinsk. In the capital 73 polling stations will be equipped with the e-voting system. The testing of the installed equipment showed that the system is practically ready for the elections.
