Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan met Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of America in the Republic of Kazakhstan
On 23 May 2007 Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mr. Kuandyk Turgankulov received Extraodinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the United States of America in the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. John M. Ordway under his request. Officials of the US Embassy in Kazakhstan also took part at the meeting.
During the meeting Chairman of the CEC acquainted Ambassador John Ordway with the course of preparation to the forthcoming in the autumn of this year elections of maslikhat deputies of all levels, as well as with work on improvement of electoral legislation.
"During the process of elaborating proposals on further development of election legislation by the work group, established under CEC, most of OSCE ODIHR recommendations as well as a range of proposals of political parties were taken into consideration. Currently, taking into account changes and additions made to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, we are preparing a set of proposals on harmonization of electoral legislation with the Major Law of our country" - noted Mr. Kuandyk Turgankulov.
In the conclusion of the meeting, at which some other issues in the field of electoral process were discussed, Mr. John Ordway expressed his confidence that improvement of electoral legislation allows Republic of Kazakhstan to conduct any elections in compliance with international standards for democratic elections.
