On November 16, 2005 the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Onalsyn Zhumabekov met with the Head of Apparatus of the Helsinki Commission under the US Congress Shawn Woo. In the course of the meeting the sides discussed preparation and administration of the upcoming Kazakhstan Presidential elections of the Republic of Kazakhstan.As Mr. Zhumabekov noted during the meeting, “Kazakhstan makes every effort to ensure that the upcoming Kazakhstan Presidential Elections are open, fair and transparent”. «We have invited international observers in order to show transparency of preparation and administration of Kazakhstan Presidential Elections”. As per the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the number of international observers accredited by the Central Election Commissions for polling stations is unlimited. Besides this, on the day of elections, the authorized persons of Presidential Candidates, observers of the political parties, NGO representatives, non-profit organizations and media may be present at the polling stations. This degree of transparency is not always present in all OSCE member states. In his turn, Mr Woo noted “the significant role of the Central Election Commission that ensures transparency of the election process”.
