A group of international observers of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in observing the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan
On February 9, 2020, 43 international observers from the Republic of Kazakhstan joined the mission to monitor the election of members to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
A total of 1314 candidates bid for 125 seats in a unicameral parliament. Of these, 11 were nominated by voters’ action groups, 246 by nineteen political parties, and 1057 were self-nominated. These included 21 percent of women in the total number of candidates, with men making up 79 percent. More than 5.3 million citizens were in the voting lists. Polling stations were open from 8.00 to 19.00 local time.
The delegation from Kazakhstan was on an observation mission in the cities of Baku, Lenkaran and in 4 regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in particular: in Barda, Zagatala, Shamkir, and Agjabadi. As international observers, representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan monitored the opening of polling stations, the voting process, the counting of votes and the tabulation.
As a reminder, 43 observers from the Republic of Kazakhstan participated in the election observation in the Republic of Azerbaijan, including: 2 observers invited by the CEC of Azerbaijan; 37 observers as members of the CIS Observation Mission; and 2 observers as part of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, with the remaining two as members of the SCO Observer Mission and the CCTSS Observer Mission, respectively.
