Nurlan Abdirov met Kuralai Baimenova, member of the Working Group on 

Ensuring the Electoral Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the CEC of the 

Republic of Kazakhstan

On September 22, 2022, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Nurlan Abdirov met Kuralai Baimenova, member of the Working Group on Ensuring the Electoral Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Union of Paralysed Citizens of Aktobe, Qazaqstan Yenbek Yeri.

Nurlan Abdirov noted that one of the most important activities of the Central Election Commission is to provide the necessary conditions for the implementation of active and passive suffrage of persons with disabilities. In this regard, taking into account the proposals made during the meetings of the Chairman of the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the regions with the public, the format of the work of this Working Group was modernised and its composition was updated. The work of this caonsultative and advisory body under the Central Election Commission is carried out on a systematic basis.

He also stressed that local executive bodies and territorial election commissions will get appropriate instructions to take all necessary measures to create conditions for voting for this category of voters in the early elections of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scheduled for November 20, 2022.

In return, Kuralai Baimenova voiced the current issues of physical accessibility of polling stations and voting conditions faced by citizens with disabilities and made a number of proposals for their elimination.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint work in this direction.
