On registration of Senators to the Parliament

of the Republic of Kazakhstan

On January 25, a meeting of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held under the chairmanship of Nurlan Abdirov, which considered the following issues:

1) on registration of Senators to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, elected on January 14, 2023;

2) on registration of Senators to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, appointed by Decrees of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 24, 2023 No. 112, 113.

The meeting was attended by chairpersons and members of territorial election commissions of the regions, Astana, Almaty, Shymkent (via videoconferencing), representatives of the media, as well as newly elected and appointed Senators to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In accordance with Article 82 of the Constitutional Act “On Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the following elected MPs were registered as Senators to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

- from the Abay region – Kairat Tastekeyev;

- from the Akmola region – Talgat Zhunussov;

- from the Aktobe region – Amangeldy Nugmanov;

- from the Almaty region – Zhanbolat Zhorgenbayev;

- from the Atyrau region – Alibek Nautiyev;

- from the East Kazakhstan region – Shakarym Buktugutov;

- from the Zhambyl region – Saken Arubayev;

- from the Zhetysu region – Amangeldy Tolamissov;

- from the West Kazakhstan region – Arman Utegulov;

- from the Karaganda region – Serik Uteshov;

- from the Kostanay region – Gauez Nurmukhambetov;

- from the Kyzylorda region – Ruslan Rustemov;

- from the Mangystau region – Bekbol Orynbassarov;

- from the Pavlodar region –Yernur Aitkenov;

- from the North Kazakhstan region – Gulmira Karimova;

- from the Turkestan region – Murat Kadyrbek;

- from the Ulytau region – Sovetbek Medebayev;

- from Astana – Bibigul Zheksenbay, Andrey Lukin (instead of the withdrawn one);

- from Almaty – Zhanna Assanova;

- from Shymkent – Nurlan Beknazarov.

In accordance with the amendments made to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan upon the results of the referendum held in June 2022, the President of the Republic currently appoints 10 Senators to the Parliament. Five of them shall be suggested by the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.

This constitutional regulatory provision has been put into practice for the first time. According to paragraph 1 of Article 24 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the status of its members” and on the basis of Decrees of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 24, 2023 No. 112, 113, the Central Election Commission registered the following MPs: Zhakip Assanov, Maulen Ashimbayev, Nurtore Zhussip, Lyazzat Kaltaeva, Askar Shakirov, Evgeny Bolgert, Zakirzhan Kuziyev, Nuriya Niyazova, Alisher Satvaldiyev, Gennady Shipovskikh.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Abdirov noted that in accordance with Article 24 of the Constitutional Law “On the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the status of its members,” the powers of MP begin from the moment of their registration by the Central Election Commission.

After signing the relevant resolutions, CEC Chairman Nurlan Abdirov, presented certificates and badges to the registered MPs.
