Kurultai ideas are being discussed in India
A delegation of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed by Chairman N. Abdirov, is taking part in the India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management being held in New Delhi. The event is organized by the Election Commission of India in cooperation with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), which holds Permanent Observer status to the United Nations and serves as an EU partner in implementing relevant projects.
N. Abdirov spoke at the plenary session of heads of electoral bodies, as well as at the Global Thematic Session, “Independent and Professional Election Management Bodies for Sustainable Democracy.”
Addressing colleagues from forty-three countries, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission presented a report titled “Reform of Kazakhstan’s Electoral System: Professionalization of Election Bodies.” Particular emphasis was placed on the transformation of the electoral system in the context of the 2022 Сonstitutional Reform initiated by the President of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev. The country modernized its electoral system and the procedures for forming representative bodies of government. An important milestone was the renewal of the corps of local executive heads (rural akims).
During presentations and meetings with heads of electoral bodies from European, American, Asian, and other countries, Nurlan Abdirov drew the distinguished audience’s attention to the key points of the Address by the Head of State at the 5th Session of the National Kurultai. Interlocutors were provided with detailed information on the main priorities for the further evolution of the political system, plans for a transition to a unicameral Parliament, and the strengthening of the state’s institutional framework. The decision to establish a Constitutional Commission and to submit a draft of amendments to the Constitution to a nationwide referendum was received with great interest.
The international conference is continuing its work, and a speech by Deputy Chairman of the CEC Mukhtar Yerman is scheduled on the topic “Current Issues in Electoral Training for Election Organizers in the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
